Reducing children’s exposure to toxic stress and providing safe, stable developmental environments can prevent or reverse the damaging effects of toxic stress.
Children who experience toxic stress are at a greater risk for health problems like heart disease, diabetes, and depression later in life.
Not all stress is bad. There are three types of stress: toxic, tolerable, and positive, such as when a child has a challenging experience like receiving annual vaccines with a supportive caregiver to comfort them.
