
Byron Amos

Byron D. Amos was elected to the Atlanta City Council in 2022. His campaign slogan, “How Can We Help,” reflected his previous experience as a community builder and advocate, which propelled him toward his current position as an Atlanta City Councilmember. As an Atlanta native and lifelong resident of Vine City, Byron has served as President of the Vine City Civic Association, Inc., as well as the Chairperson of Neighborhood Planning Unit L. Councilman Amos is also an entrepreneur, community organizer, and public education advocate with more than 25 years of experience in building stronger communities. He currently serves as the CEO of Capacity Builders, Inc., a corporation that focuses on overseeing community empowerment and development programs that encourage citizens to engage with their local government.
Councilman Amos also served as the District 2 Representative on the Atlanta Board of Education for seven years. He led efforts to create and adopt the first Atlanta Public School Equity Policy, aimed at bridging achievement gaps between white and black students in Atlanta Public Schools and addressing socioeconomic factors that impact student learning. Additionally, Councilman Amos serves on the Community Leadership Council of the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University. As a proud graduate of the historic Booker T. Washington High School, Councilman Amos is a product of the Atlanta Public School system. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. He is also a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, the City of Atlanta Citizen Police Academy, and the City of Atlanta Citizens Fire and Rescue Academy. Due to his commitment to public service and stewardship, Councilman Amos has received many honors and awards, including being recognized as a WATL 36 Unsung Hero and an Outstanding Atlantan. He is a husband and proud father of three daughters and one son. He is a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Vine City, where he serves on the Trustee Board.
