Inequality Begins at Birth

This post by Jeff Madrick discusses how early childhood adversities, including poverty, can create a toxic stress response [1] in the body that can compromise the architecture of the developing brain. Interventions and programs that address the stressors of poverty are vital to improving health and educational outcomes for many children. Madrick notes, “What is concerning, moreover, is that these findings have been known for some time but are not getting adequate attention.”
