"The Science of Learning, Behavior, and Health: Implications for Early Childhood Policy"

Taught by Center Director Jack P. Shonkoff, this course will be offered again in Spring 2010. The course will conduct a critical examination of the relationship between the science of early childhood development and the formulation of social policies focused on young children and their families. It is co-listed by the Graduate School of Education and the School of Public Health and is open to graduate students throughout the university. More >>



"Understanding, Observing, and Studying Quality in Early Childhood Settings and Children’s Outcomes"

Catherine Snow, Patricia Albjerg Graham Professor of Education, and Andrea Rolla, a senior research associate at the Center and at Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), are co-teaching this yearlong HGSE course during the 2009-10 year. In it, students examine different early childhood settings and how to evaluate the quality of learning settings both in and outside of the home. The course focuses in particular on the Un Buen Comienzo project in Chile, an experimental study that examines the effects of improving teacher professional development. More >>
